aac2012 tutor of the year

Mark_Tutor_sm.jpgThe Academic Achievement Center staff and tutors wish to congratulate our Architecture tutor Mark Drotar, who has been selected as the 2012 AAC Tutor of the Year.

The tutor of the year award recognizes the outstanding contributions of a student tutor who fulfills the AAC’s mission to educate, empower, and inspire fellow students to become independent and successful lifelong learners. Nominees for the award are judged based on their ability to facilitate student learning, their creativity and initiative in executing tutoring sessions, and their modeling of academic integrity and enthusiasm for learning.

Mark Drotar has completed four years in the architecture program and plans to graduate in Spring 2013. Professionally unsure at this time, he says, “There are so many options directly related to architecture and even more with moderate connections. I wouldn’t want to limit my aspirations to only jobs I know of.” He would like to have some experience in the residential field, eventually designing his own home with an interest in integrating technological systems for greater use and sustainability. He enjoys the technical aspects of commercial work and architecture in general. Teaching would also be a desirable outcome for him if given the opportunity.

He is currently at LTU with an LTU Elite Scholarship and has participated in several competitions throughout the years including MITES, LTU’s Stanford Global Innovation Tournament, and recently placed first in the 2011 AAAEA scholarship competition. “I have been using Autodesk Revit since my sophomore year in high school (2005) and I’d like to put that experience to good use. I am currently working on gaining my building information modeling (BIM) certificate”. His favorite part of creating the models is making them come alive by rendering them at the end.

Congratulations Mark!
